UUSJ is having an online conversation on Thursday April 30 at 8:00 PM on the topic of Immigration Justice Advocacy & COVID-19.

We would like to invite you to join UUSJ’s Immigration Justice Task Group to share what is on your heart regarding COVID-19, hear what we’ve been doing, and especially gather your ideas on how UUSJ should focus its Immigration Justice advocacy for a just COVID recovery.

No one left out: a COVID-19 response that puts NJ’s most vulnerable residents first. Join STAND CNJ for a virtual gathering on understanding the advocacy needed to make an impact on NJ’s next steps in supporting its communities throughout the state.

Speakers:

  • Dena Mottola Jaborska, Associate Director, New Jersey Citizen Action will highlight how our advocacy efforts can make an impact on current issues, such as unemployment, paid leave, and healthcare to close the gaps and protect NJ residents.
  • Brandon J. McKoy, President, New Jersey Policy Perspective will highlight the important policy and budgetary advocacy needed to develop the state’s legislation and resources necessary to tackle our newest challenge.

Join us in learning more on what NJ activists should understand about how the state can provide resources and what we can all do to make sure necessary services are provided for people in our state.

Hi, my name is [NAME].I am calling to demand that you do everything in your power to make sure all people detained in your facility are released immediately. [for Bergen and Hudson only ] AND that you cease accepting any new detainees. New Jersey is located in the US epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the second-highest number of confirmed cases in the country. Bergen County has the highest number of cases and fatalities in the state. Essex County has the second-highest number of cases and fatalities in the state, and Hudson county has the third-highest in the state. Conditions in county jails make it impossible to follow social distancing protocols, as medical experts recommend and the governor’s Executive Order 107 requires. _______ County needs to act now to ensure the safety and well-being of all people in the county, especially those currently detained and incarcerated in its county jail. Acting now to release all those in custody will curb the spread of COVID-19 both within and outside of county facilities, and help make New Jersey safer for all.
